How We Test and Update Content

Our Testing Process
Formula Research & Sourcing
Before writing a single line of code, we research the correct formula from authoritative sources. For financial calculators, this means IRS publications, CFPB guidelines, or peer-reviewed financial research. For health calculators, we reference WHO, CDC, or published clinical studies. We document the source alongside the formula.
Manual Verification
Every calculator is tested manually with known inputs and expected outputs before launch. For example, a compound interest calculator is verified against hand calculations and cross-checked against established financial tools. We test edge cases: zero values, very large numbers, boundary conditions.
Cross-Tool Comparison
Where possible, we compare our results against at least one other reputable calculator (e.g., government calculators, established financial institutions). Significant discrepancies trigger a formula review before publication.
Content Review
Calculator pages, guides, and blog articles are reviewed for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. We check that explanations are correct, examples use realistic numbers, and disclaimers are appropriately placed. We specifically look for language that could be misread as professional advice.
Scheduled Reviews
Content is not published and forgotten. We maintain a review schedule tied to the type of content: tax calculators are reviewed every January, health calculators are reviewed when major guidelines change, and blog articles are reviewed annually for factual currency.
User Feedback Integration
We read every message sent through our contact form. When users report potential errors or suggest improvements, we investigate promptly. Confirmed errors are corrected and noted on the affected page.
Update Schedule
Different types of content have different update triggers. Here is our standard review schedule:
| Content Type | Review Frequency | Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Federal tax brackets & FICA limits | Annually (January) | IRS annual inflation adjustments |
| Standard deduction amounts | Annually (January) | IRS annual inflation adjustments |
| BMI & health classification thresholds | As needed | WHO/CDC guideline updates |
| Retirement contribution limits (401k, IRA) | Annually (November–December) | IRS COLA announcements |
| Blog articles (time-sensitive topics) | Annually | Annual content audit |
| Guides and educational content | Annually or when source data changes | Annual content audit or source updates |
| Calculator formulas | As needed | Source methodology changes or error reports |
What We Don't Do
We do not publish calculators before verifying the underlying formula.
We do not use placeholder or estimated data in calculators that present results as factual.
We do not present calculator results as professional financial, tax, or medical advice.
We do not allow advertising relationships to influence which calculators we build or how we present results.
We do not leave known errors uncorrected while waiting for a scheduled review cycle.
Found an Error?
Despite our best efforts, errors can occur. If you believe a calculator is producing incorrect results, a formula is outdated, or an article contains inaccurate information, please let us know. We investigate every report and respond to substantive issues.
